Box Score 2 ATLANTA – Berry College split its two games at the Emory National Tournament on Saturday. The Vikings defeated Cortland State, 3-2, and fell to host Emory, 3-1.
Set scores against Cortland were 27-29, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17, 15-10. The Vikings trailed 4-0 to open set five, but scored the next five points and never trailed again.
Emily Stromberg notched a match-best of 22 kills, hit .347 and had 14 digs for Berry. Sarah Steffan added 15 kills for the Vikings. Stephanie Quinn and Lauren Schmitz both dished 30 assists and Katie Truluck recorded a match-high 21 digs.
Liz Roberts had 37 assists for Cortland (14-20).
Set scores vs. Emory were 25-11, 25-17, 24-26, 25-18. Stromberg led the charge again with 12 kills. Gretchen Kaufman and Katie O'Rourke spiked 11 and 10 kills respectively. O'Rourke was tabbed to the all-tournament team. Kate Bowman recorded a match-high 14 kills for Emory (27-3).
"We couldn't have asked for better preparation for the postseason," said Head Coach Mika Robinson. "All three teams we faced at this tournament presented different challenges, and ways we can improve over the next few weeks."
Berry (22-7) returns to action next Friday at the Southern Athletic Association championships. Top-seed and host BC plays Oglethorpe at 5:30 p.m.
