Dziurzynski Ties Record With Nine Goals in 22-14 Win at Puget Sound

Box Score

Berry's Kristan Dziurzynski tied her own school record with nine goals as the Vikings defeated the University of Puget Sound 22-14 Friday evening in Tacoma, Wash.

Puget Sound jumped out to a 6-3 lead midway through the first half, but the Vikings (4-3) finished the half with a 9-2 run to take a 12-8 lead at the intermission. Dziurzynski scored six of Berry's nine goals during that stretch, including five in a row during one seven-minute span.

The Vikings started the second half by picking up where they left off, scoring the first four goals of the half and embarking on another 9-2 run over the first 18 minutes of the second stanza, raising their lead to 21-10.

For Dziurzynski, Friday's game marked the second time she has scored nine goals in a contest. She also accomplished the feat earlier this season in a 25-24 sudden-death overtime loss to Augustana on Feb. 25. She is the only player in school history to score nine goals in a game.

Jenny Miller and Elizabeth Flatt scored three goals apiece for the Vikings, while Claire Rosenburg scored twice and Alex Garza, Katie Harber, Rachel Aiken, Kaylee Lane and Kim Slade found the net once each.

Miller and Dziurzynski also passed for three assists each and Garza picked up a game high seven ground balls.

Julia Schulman led the Loggers with five goals, and Caroline Cook added three.

Berry starter Taylor Martin earned the win in goal, racking up nine saves in 41:28 of playing time. Diana Lynch played the final 18:32 between the pipes for the Vikings.

Berry delivered 36 shots against UPS, including 22 in the first half, compared to 29 by the Loggers (17 in the first half). The Vikings also held a 30-26 ground ball advantage.

The victory capped a successful spring break trip for the Vikings, who, along with getting to see the sights of the Pacific Northwest over the past week, won both of its games by a combined scored of 36-24. Berry defeated Pacific (Ore.) 14-10 Wednesday.

After starting the season 0-2 with a pair of one-goal losses, the Vikings have reeled off four wins in the past five games, outscoring their opponents 83-57 during that stretch.

Berry returns to action March 17 at Centre College.
