Box Score Claire Scott Reaches 1,000 Career Digs, But Piedmont Defeats Vikings
Berry's Claire Scott reached an impressive milestone Tuesday night, but Piedmont defeated Scott's Vikings in four sets in a non-conference match in Demorest, Ga. Set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 26-24.
The loss ended the Vikings five match winning streak.
Scott, a senior outside hitter, finished the match with 16 kills and 19 digs, putting her over the 1,000 dig total for her career. She ended the match with 1,003 career digs. Junior Kristin Hargrove entered the match just 79 digs away from 1,000 for her career, and tallied 18 Tuesday night. Hargrove also recorded a service ace.
A pair of underclassmen also joined the two seniors with solid statistical performances, as freshman Meredith Hopper had 11 kills,18 digs and a pair of blocks and sophomore setter Stephanie Quinn delivered 42 assists.
"We dug a hole for ourselves in the first two sets, but I was proud of our shift in focus and aggressiveness in the last two sets," Berry coach Mika Robinson said. "Piedmont played great defense and did a great job of keeping us off balance."
Hallye Jerkins led Piedmont (9-1), which appeared in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, with 12 kills, and Kaitlin Norman recorded 10 for the Lions.
Scott becomes the fourth player in Berry's nine-year volleyball history to record at least 1,000 digs.
The Vikings (5-5) are scheduled to return to action Thursday at Faulkner.
