ROME, Ga. - Berry's Lacey Herring collected a pair of hits in each game and drove in four runs in the opening game, but second-ranked Emory swept a doubleheader from the Vikings by scores of 5-4 and 10-6, respectively, Saturday at South Ford Field.
Berry came back from a 4-3 deficit to tie the opening game in the bottom of the seventh inning on Herring's two-out RBI double and force an extra inning. But Emory would score what turned out to be the game-winning run on an error in the eighth.
Herring's seventh-inning double marked the second time she tied the game. With the Vikings trailing 3-0 in fifth, she deliverered a three-run double to even up the contest.
Jessie Washington also had two hits in the opener for the Vikings.
Berry pitcher Caillee Shamoun allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk in eight innings of work. She struck out three batters.
In the second game, Herring singled, scored twice and drove in a run, and Blaze Wilson was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Jessie Washington and Lindsey Campbell also drove in runs for Berry.
Andrea Cole allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings of work for Berry. Shamoun recorded the final two outs.
The Vikings are scheduled to return to action April 22nd, when they host Huntingdon at noon.
