Berry's softball team continued its impressive play Thursday, running its winning streak to eight consecutive games with a 12-1 victory over New England College and an 8-0 win over Mt. Ida College in Clermont, Fla.
Andrea Cole earned the victory against New England, allowing four hits and striking out four batters in a five-inning complete game effort. The game was stopped early due to the NCAA's run rule.
Cole's pitching added to a complete team effort in which the Vikings' defense did not commit an error and its offense made life miserable for New England.
Chelsea Usher delivered a three-run homer to highlight a 2-for-3 performance. She also scored twice to go with her three RBIs.
Kristen Stoll homered and tripled, scored twice and drove in three runs for Berry, while Lacey Herring was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Caillee Shamoun shut down Mt. Ida in the second game, tossing a six-inning shutout. That game was also stopped early due to the run rule.
Shamoun was dominating, striking out nine batters and allowing just two hits.
Stoll led Berry's 15-hit attack with a 3-for-3 showing. She doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Sara Vigue and Holly Todd also had big games at the plate for the Vikings. Vigue was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, and scored twice. Todd was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Berry has put together a solid combination of hitting and pitching during its current winning streak, outscoring opponents 82-12 during the stretch.
Berry is scheduled play a third game Thursday when it meets Bates College at 7:30 p.m.
