ROME, Ga. - Kristen Stoll hit a grand slam in the first game and Hailley Oxner drove in four runs in the second, while pitchers Caillee Shamoun and Andrea Cole tossed back-to-back two-hit shutouts as Berry overwhelmed Wesleyan College by scores of 16-0 and 21-0 Thursday.
Both games were stopped in the middle of the fifth inning due to the NCAA's run rule.
In the first game, Berry scored twice in the first inning before scoring nine runs in the second and five more in the third.
Stoll's grand slam came without even leaving the yard. She smacked a line drive past first baseman Sara Dickson that landed in fair territory along the right field line before scooting into the corner. Meanwhile Stoll dashed around the bases and scored standing up.
Jodie Tatum led the Vikings with two hits in the opener, while Stoll drove in a game high four runs. Jessica Washington and Krista Woody drove in two runs apiece and Tatum, Lindsey Campbell, Denice Aleman, Holly Todd and Katie Stanford also drove in runs for Berry.
Shamoun (2-2) struck out nine batters in five scoreless innings for the Vikings. She allowed just two hits, both singles to Pioneers centerfielder Belle Thomas, and walked two batters.
Cole (2-2) followed Shamoun's performance with a similar one of her own. Like Shamoun, Cole limited Wesleyan to a pair of singles in five innings of work. She struck out six batters and walked none.
By the time Cole went to the pitcher's circle to throw in the bottom of the first inning, her teammates had already given her a 13-run lead.
The Vikings (4-4) chased Wesleyan starter Kayla Lumley from the game after just two-thirds of an inning. Berry batters scored all 13 first-inning runs off the Wesleyan starter, but even with eight hits in the inning, 10 of the 13 runs were unearned after the Pioneers committed five errors in the frame.
Berry sent 19 batters to the plate in that first inning. They also batted around the order in the third inning, and sent eight hitters to the plate in the fourth.
Oxner went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs in the nightcap. She was one of five Vikings to drive in at least two runs.
Holly Todd led the Vikings with four hits, while also driving in three runs and scoring four times. Stanford was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Denice Aleman went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs and Chelsea Usher drove in two runs and scored twice.
Tatum, Sydney Bush and Kim Treese also drove in a run apiece.
Berry now begins a month-long road swing that begins at the Birmingham-Southern Invitational March 5. The Vikings finally return home April 2 to host Piedmont.
