Berry Battles For Five-Set Win Over Covenant

Box Score

Quinn Records 2,000th Career Assist, Berry Records Season High Dig Total on Dig Pink Night

ROME, Ga. - Berry's Claire Scott recorded 17 kills and 31 digs as the Vikings came from behind to defeat Covenant in five closely contested sets in a non-conference volleyball match at the Cage Center Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13.

Scott led three Vikings in double figures in the kill column.  She was joined by Kiersten Hammock, who recorded 16 kills, and Sarah Steffan, who added 15 kills and 17 digs.

Meanwhile, Berry sophomore setter Stephanie Quinn dished out 54 assists, including the 2,000th of her short career.  She became just the third player in school history to reach the milestone.

Quinn also picked up 12 digs and five kills.

Kristin Hargrove and Meredith Hopper also tallied double figure dig totals.  Hargrove finished with 25 and Hopper tallied 15.

Covenant was led by Erica Adams' 18 kills and Estes Carlon's 38 digs.  Kristin Dahlstrand passed for 37 assists in the match.

On Dig Pink night at the Cage Center, it was appropriate the Berry would record a season high 105 digs.  The Vikings' previous season high came in a five-set loss to Randolph Macon on Sept. 23.

Pink was the theme of the evening, with all proceeds from the Dig Pink event going to the Side-Out Foundation, an organization that partners with volleyball coaches and teams to further breast cancer awareness, education and fundraising efforts. Both teams wore pink-themed uniforms, with the Vikings wearing white jerseys with pink numbers and the Scots donning pink jerseys with white numbers.  In addition, many fans sported pink to show their support for the cause, and several fundraising efforts for the Side-Out Foundation were held.

Berry is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham-Southern Fall Invitational before returning to the Cage Center for the season finale against Faulkner on Nov. 1.
