ATLANTA — Leading Berry to a series sweep over Rhodes College, Jacob Delk has been selected as the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Delk hit .429 on the week, driving in eight runs and finished with a walk-off single against the Lynx in game two.
He started the week 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Vikings' game one matchup against Piedmont on Tuesday. He then added an additional three hits and four RBIs in Berry's nightcap contest against the Lions on Tuesday as well. Delk then ignited the Viking offense at the plate in game two of the series against Rhodes. Delk singled up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning to bring home two Vikings and ensure the 3-2 walk-off win for Berry. He then finished the week hot at the plate for Berry, hitting 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and a double in the Vikings' final 10-4 game three victory over Rhodes on Sunday.
Delk finished the week with a .476 slugging percentage, knocking in eight runs and scoring five times en route to Berry's three-game sweep over the Lynx. On the year, Delk now ranks third in the conference in batting average (.408), as well as first in the SAA in RBIs (39). Behind Delk, the Vikings are now 23-10 overall on the year, as well as 14-4 in conference play, currently ranked first in the conference standings.
