BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Berry women's track team raced at the SAA Indoor Challenge at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena on Saturday. Berry competed against conference teams Birmingham-Southern, Centre, Hendrix, Millsaps, Ogelthorpe, Rhodes, and Sewanee.
The women's track team competed in the distance medley relay, the mile, the 3000m, and the 4x400m.
Berry started out the day with the distance medley relay (DMR), consisting of the 1200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m respectively. Freshman Danielle Ferro opened up the race with a 4:07r, junior Annika Stryker then raced her leg in 1:18r, then junior Nicole Fredette (pictured) raced her leg in 2:33, and finally senior and team captain Charlotte Collins closed with a solid 5:25. Overall, the women's DMR team placed third and dropped 28 seconds off their previous DMR at the Sewanee Tiger Indoor Invitational. The DMR team clocked in at 13:25.98.
Senior Katy Jordan and Stryker competed in the women's open mile. Jordan placed twelfth overall and clocked in at 6:29.51. Stryker posted a 6:50.53 and placed 14th overall.
Collins and Ferro placed second and sixth in the 3000m respectively. Collins clocked in at 11:02.68. Ferro posted an 11:27.30.
"The 3K was nice because I was able to race a longer distance," Ferro said. "I ran my own race and had fun with it. I started out slower, but I gradually moved up throughout the race and was able to have a much stronger race than the last meet."
The last event of the day was the 4x400m relay. Ferro (1:11r), Stryker (1:18r), Fredette (1:06r), and Collins (1:10r) made up the Berry relay team and placed eighth overall with a time of 4:47.74.
