The Lady Vikings competed at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational at Georgia Tech on March 16. Schools in attendance included Kennesaw State University, Clark Atlanta University, Shorter University, Mercer University, Fort Valley State University, Georgia College and State University, Georgia State University and the University of West Georgia. The Lady Vikings competed in four events with 14 members of the team competing.
The first event for the Lady Vikings was the 800 meters. Senior Casey Norris raced the 800 meters in 2:42.31. Norris' time earned her ninth place for the event.
The next event was the unseeded 1500 meters. Sophomore Katy Jordan raced the 1500 meters in 5:47.04 for a ninth place finish. Behind Jordan was freshman Leslie Stewart. Stewart came in 12th place with a time of 6:07.82. Freshman Annika Stryker also competed in the 1500 meters. Stryker raced in a time of 6:55.29 for 13th place.
Senior Jenn Cook had an excellent showing in the seeded 1500 meters. Cook placed fifth in the seeded race with at time of 4:49.37.
Nine women from the team raced in the 5000 meter race. Senior Sara Walcott was the first from the team in the 5000 meters. Walcott ran 19:00.80 for a 12th place finish. Next was junior Lauren Nation. Nation completed the race in 20:32.10 for 22nd place. Sophomore Charlotte Collins raced the 5000 meters in 21:01.22 for 25th place. After Collins, freshman Nicole Fredette raced to 26th place with a time of 21:15.14.
Next for the Lady Vikings in the 5000 meter race was senior Lauren Hicks with a time of 21:59.76 for 29th place. Then, senior Ellery Jones raced to 29th place in 22:02.37. Following Jones was freshman Kayla Heflin who raced the 5000 meters in 23:03.10 for 31st place. Right behind Heflin was freshman Hibah Abuhamdieh in 23:03.13 for 32nd place. This was Abuhamdieh's first race since October. Abuhamdieh's strong performance was a testament to the hard work she did in recovering from various injuries in the cross country season. Sophomore Allison Preg was the final team member in the event. Preg raced to 33rd place in 23:03.48.
The Lady Vikings compete again at the Shorter Relays on March 23 and 24 in Rome, Ga.
