Cook Finishes Second, Leads Berry to Third Place Team Finish at Berry College Cross Country Invitational
Berry's Jennifer Cook finished second overall and helped her team to a third-place finish at the Berry College Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Emory University won the event, as five of its runners were among the first 16 finishers. Emory finished with 53 team points. Lee was second with 70 points, followed by Berry with 77. Shorter finished fourth at 102 and Blue Mountain rounded out the top five with 158 points.
The field included 124 runners and 14 teams.
Cook finished the 5K course in a time of 18:50, 45 seconds behind the individual winner, Justyna Mudy of Shorter. She was one of three Lady Vikings to finish among the top 15 in the event. Berry's Courtney Cooper finised 11th in a time of 19:44, while Sara Walcott finished 21 seconds later in 14th place.
The Lady Vikings' Anna Sons was 24th, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:51. Four other Berry runners finished with sub-22 minute times. Gabby Fulton was 36th, with a time of 21:29, while Sarah Foreman (40th, 21:42), Tara Morgan (41st, 21:48) and Charlotte Collins (43rd, 21:55) all came in under that time frame.
Other Berry runners included Allison Preg (48th, 22:13), Ellery Nash (61st, 23:01), Alyssa O'Dell (67th, 23:19), Lauren Hicks (81st, 24:23), Anna Nelson (91st, 25:37) and CJ Sparks (96th, 26:25).
Berry is scheduled to return to action Sept. 25 at the Christian Brothers University Brooks Twilight Classic.
