Vikings End Season With Victory Over Maryville
Berry College's volleyball team finished out its 2010 season on a high note Saturday, rallying from two sets down to defeat MaryVille College in the Emory Invitational in Atlanta.
Set scores were 16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12.
"I was really proud of our team for fighting back from an 0-2 deficit despite being physically exhausted," Berry head coach Mika Robinson said of her team, which was playing immediately after it was defeated by Birmingham-Southern College in three sets. "We talked all week about ending our season on a good note, and we showed a lot of heart to do it under the conditions."
Earlier in the day, Berry fell to Birmingham-Southern 25-23, 25-11, 25-21.
Erin Godwin, the Vikings' lone senior, recorded nine kills and seven digs against BSC, while Stephanie Quinn passed for 20 assists, picked up eight digs and delivered a pair of service aces in the match.
Following the Maryville match, Robinson reflected on the 2010 season.
"This team has been so much fun to coach, and they have worked hard all year," Robinson said. "We will miss Erin, but the future is bright for Berry volleyball."
The Vikings finish the season with a 22-11 overall record.
