Berry Women's Swimmers Named Scholar All-America Team

Berry College's women's swim team has been named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The Vikings were one of just 29 NCAA Division III squads to earn the award, which requires a cumulative team grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Berry's cumulative team GPA was 3.22.

Berry has now earned the award in every year of the women's swim team's three-year existence.

"I know the ladies are very proud to receive this prestigious honor for the third consecutive year," Berry coach Paul Flinchbaugh said. "As a coach, I couldn't be happier for them. They've made this a tradition that they plan to continue.

"It speaks very highly for the program," Flinchbaugh continued. "It shows that our swimmers expect to perform well in the classroom and swim fast."

The Vikings are coming off a seventh-place finish at the recent Appalachian Swimming Conference championships. Of the 15 teams that compete in the ASC, all but Berry and LaGrange compete at the NCAA Division II or NAIA level. As NCAA Division III members, Berry and LaGrange are the only teams in the ASC unable to offer athletic scholarships.
