Berry Swimmers Split Pair of Duals Friday in Tennessee

Berry College's swim teams split a pair of dual meets in Milligan College, Tenn., Friday evening, defeating King College and falling to host Milligan College.

Berry's men defeated King 55-37 and fell to Milligan 52-38, while Berry's women topped King 60-19 and lost to Milligan 47-41.

Combined, the Vikings outscored King 115-56 but were defeated 99-79 by Milligan.

The event was held in Milligan's 25-meter short course pool.

Overall, Berry swimmers won 10 of the 26 events Friday, including five races won by the women and five more by the men's team.

On the women's side, Rachel Sandoval swam to victories in the 50 meter freestyle (28.96) and the 100 meter freestyle. She finished the 50 meters in time of 28.96 seconds, and the 100 meters in 1:03.14.

Julie Zimmerman and Kaitlin O'Brien also picked up individual victories for Berry's women.

Zimmerman won the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:56.26, while O'Brien won the 800 meter freestyle by clocking a time of 10:02.49.  Berry teammate Bobbi Briggs finished second in both races.

Briggs did pick up a first place finish as the lead swimmer in the 400 meter freestyle relay. She joined teammates O'Brien, Lydia Titus and Emily Balint in winning the event with a time of 4:38.58.

For Berry's men, David Lutomski and Conor Monaghan each won a pair of races, and Andrew Beumer won one.

Lutomski touched the wall first in the 200 meter freestyle (2:05.91) and the 400 meter freestyle (4:33.38), while Monaghan won the 200 meter individual medley (2:18.64) and the 100 meter butterfly (1:00.73).

The Vikings' Adam Jarrell finished second behind Monaghan in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:25.16.

Beumer picked up Berry's other victory with a first-place finish in the 800 meter freestyle, clocking a time of 9:35.71.

The event was the final action for Berry before it enters its final Appalachian Swim Conference Championships on Feb. 17 and 18.
