Berry Swimmers Finish 3rd, 4th at FIU Relays

Early morning and two-a-day workouts over the past several days paid off for Berry College's men's and women's swim teams Thursday at the Florida International University Relays in Miami. Berry's men finished third and its women finished fourth.

Berry's men finished behind NCAA Division I members Eastern Michigan and American University and ahead of New Jersey Institute of Technology, while the women finished behind Florida International, Eastern Michigan and American, all Division I programs.

"After a tough week of long course meters workouts in the mornings and short course yards in the afternoon, both teams stepped up to the blocks to race and put together great relays," Berry coach Paul Flinchbaugh said.

Berry's women's team's top finish was a third-place result in the 300-yard breastroke, in which Mariah Moon, Lydia Titus and Rachel Sandoval combined to swim the event in a time of 4:21.70.

The Lady Vikings also picked up six fourth-place finishes.

Berry's men recorded three second-place finishes Thursday, finishing as runners-up in the 300-yard butterfly, 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.

In a rare three-man event, Graydon McCrite, David Lutomski and Conor Monaghan teamed up to swim the 300-meter relay in 2:46.63, finishing just under four seconds behind Eastern Michigan.

Adam Jarrell, Connor Walsh, Nick Diaz and Alan Campbell finished second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:25.48; while McCrite, Campbell, Andrew Beumer and Monaghan swam the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 3:32.04.

Berry's men finished third in six other events.

Berry is scheduled to return to action Jan. 13-14 at the Colonel Classic in Danville, Ky.
