Lady Vikings in Eighth Place After First Round at Rome News-Tribune Invitational

Nikki Cline and Nicole Wood each shot 83 to lead Berry on the opening day of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational, hosted by Berry College at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Monday.

Berry enters Tuesday's final round in eighth place in the 14-team tournament with a team score of 350.

Cline and Wood are tied for 21st place, nine strokes behind Lee's Courtney Shelton and Shorter's Lisa Persson, who are tied for the tournament lead at 74.

Berry's Cady Clark is tied for 54th at 91, Chelsea Hoag is tied for 58th at 93 and Lauren Buschhorn is tied for 62nd at 94.

Berry has two players competing individually. Morgan Johnston is tied for 42nd at 89, while Ellen Rayburn is 79th at 121.

Lee sits atop the team leaderboard with a first-round 309, three strokes ahead of second-place Shorter. Lindsey Wilson is third at 326, Cumberlands is fourth at 332 and Trevecca Nazarene rounds out the top five at 337.

Campbellsville is sixth at 340 and Young Harris is the other team ahead of Berry, shooting 343 Monday.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
