Lady Vikings in Eighth Place After First Day of Home Event
Berry's Lacey Sheppard fired a first-round 78 to tie for fifth place and lead the Lady Vikings on the first day of the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational Monday at Stonebridge Golf Club. Berry is in eighth place as a team after shooting 350.
Sheppard is just four strokes out of the lead, held by Shorter's Lisa Persson, who shot 74. Piedmont's Katarina Hodge is in second place, two strokes behind Persson, while Courtney Huppert of Southwestern and Ellen Chun of Birmingham-Southern each shot 77 and are one shot ahead of Sheppard.
Sheppard's Berry teammate Nikki Cline shot 86th and tied for 25th, while Chelsea Hoag is tied for 40th at 90, Morgan Johnston is tied for 55th at 96, and Nicole Wood is a shot behind Johnston and tied for 97.
Four other Lady Vikings played as individuals. Eftihia Kountakis shot 100 and is in 64th place. Cady Clark is tied for 67th at 103 and Lauren Buschhorn and Ellen Rayburn each shot 112 and are tied for 72nd.
Shorter holds a comfortable lead in the team standings after shooting 315 Monday, 16 strokes better than second place Coastal Georgia (331). Piedmont (334, Southwestern (337) and Young Harris (339) round out the top five.
Birmingham-Southern (340) is just one stroke out of the top five, and is followed in the standings by Marian (349), Berry (350), Huntingdon (353) and Oglethorpe (364) in the top 10. Reinhardt (371), Truett-McConnell (386) and Maryville (394) round out the field.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
