Cori Thiermann became the first head softball coach in Berry College history when she was named to the post in June, 2008. In three seasons at Berry, Thiermann has accumulated a career record of 63-47. She insists that the growth of this program come from her student athletes’ diligence and competitive nature. The players work hard each day while balancing an active academic, athletic, and social life. 

In just three seasons, the Vikings have been honored with 16 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes. This award is given to any player who has achieved a 3.50 grade-point average or higher during the academic year. The team has also been ranked among NCAA DIII schools for their success in the classroom. In the 2012 season, Berry ranked 22nd in the nation while posting a team grade-point average of 3.435. In 2011, the Vikings were ranked 65th, noting a 3.27 team GPA.

In 2012, Berry compiled their best season to date, with an overall record of 25-11. The Vikings pitching staff successfully guided the team, posting a program best 2.19 ERA for the season while striking out a program high 160 batters. The team exploded on offense setting several program records, including pounding 67 doubles, 22 home runs, while posting a slugging percentage of .470. Despite a difficult schedule, the team finished the season strong winning 9 of the last 12 games. This included an away series sweep of the GSAC conference champions and a win over the SCAC conference champions. Berry’s Kristen Stoll was recognized as the NFCA’s Third Team All Region First baseman.

In only the programs second season, Thiermann led her team to its first winning record, a 20-16 overall mark. In 2011, Berry noted a programs best .337 batting average, 335 hits, 17 triples, and 205 RBI’s. Berry was recognized by the NFCA, as Stoll received Second Team All Region First Baseman award. 

In Berry's first season of play in 2010, Thiermann led a team with almost all freshmen to an 18-20 overall mark, including an 18-16 record against NCAA Division III opponents. 

Thiermann came to Berry after two seasons as an assistant coach at Montana State University-Billings, where she finished her master’s degree in sports, recreation and fitness management. During her tenure there, the Yellow Jackets posted a 54-45 overall record, including an impressive 26-13 mark in conference play. In 2008, the team went 28-21 and was 16-8 against Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents.

Thiermann holds a bachelor's degree in both business administration and public administration from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, where she played NCAA Div. I softball for the Phoenix from 2001-05 and was a four-year Horizon League Honor Roll member. As a senior she was a member of the 2005 team that won the Horizon League championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
