Vikings Close NTC Classic With A Two-Game Split Wednesday
Berry pitcher Caillee Shamoun tossed a four-hit complete game and Jessica Washington and Sara Vigue each drove in a run to lead Berry to a 2-1 victory over Ohio Northern Wednesday in the Vikings' second game of the day in Clermont, Fla. John Carroll defeated Berry 2-0 earlier in the afternoon.
The games were part of the NTC Classic, held at the National Training Center.
Against Ohio Northern, Washington and Courtney Hodges were both 2-for-3 at the plate, and Vigue, Holly Todd, Critter Dawsey and Kristen Stoll each had a hit.
Shamoun struck out four batters en route to the victory.
The win improved the Vikings' record to 9-5 overall, including a 9-3 mark in the past 12 games. Berry was 6-2 at the NTC Classic.
The win against Ohio Northern allowed Berry to close out its spring break trip on a high note after falling to John Carroll earlier.
The Vikings were limited to three hits and committed three errors in that game. Dawsey and Vigue were each 1-for-2 against John Carroll. Vigue was also hit by a pitch and stole a base.
Berry pitcher Andrea Cole allowed six hits while striking out a pair of batters.
The Vikings, who have played all 14 of their games outside of Georgia, finally come home to play at the friendly confines of South Ford Field when they host Truet-McConnell this Wednesday. First pitch in the twin bill is scheduled for 2 p.m.
