Vikings Compete at Vulcan Indoor Track Invitational
By: Alice Coughlin
The Vikings competed at the two day Vulcan Invitational indoor track meet. The meet attracted large schools like Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Mississippi State, but there were also schools representing the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) conference like Rhodes College, Birmingham-Southern College and the University of the South.
The men's team competed in two events on Feb. 10. The first event for Berry's team was the mile. Senior Blake Bannister led his team with a time of 4:23.42 for an 18th place finish. Followed by Bannister was sophomore Brandon Davis in 36th place with a time of 4:35.77. Also competing in the mile was junior Lucas Stocks who ran to a 45th place finish in 4:59.59, just breaking the 5-minute mark.
The men in the mile race all earned personal records or tied their previous personal records. The performances of Bannister, Davis and Stocks represented solid races, especially for the second meet of the season.
The next event for the Vikings was the 5000 meters. Sophomore Ryan James raced to a 12th place finish in a time of 15:50.40. Juniors William Anthony and Chris White also competed in the 5000 meters. Anthony ran a 17:06.27 for 20th place and White ran a 17:51.59 for 22nd place.
"The men ran solid races and the best races they could for this point in the season," said Coach Paul Deaton.
The Vikings have one final event for the Vulcan Invitational on Feb. 11.
