NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced their All-Academic teams for the 2016-17 academic year with Berry College's men's and women's track and field teams earning recognition.
Berry's Danielle Patterson also earned individual All-Academic honors, becoming one of just six women in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) to do so.
A total of 294 teams (183 women’s, 111 men’s) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA. In comparison to other schools in the SAA, Berry was one of just three programs to earn distinction on the men's side while the Vikings were one of four for the women.
“While earning this recognition is a baseline academic expectation for our programs each year, it is still an honor to be recognized," head coach Luke Syverson said. "We will continue to work towards being one of the top academic programs in the nation for Division III. I appreciate all that our student-athletes, faculty and academic support staff do to help us reach our academic goals.”
The Berry men's team posted a collective 3.11 GPA while the women had a 3.30 mark. The teams also placed a combined 34 athletes (15 men, 19 women) on the SAA Academic Honor Roll this season.
