Men's Soccer Earns Five All-Conference Selections

ATLANTA – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) announced the 2017 SAA Men's Soccer All-Conference Awards, and five Vikings earned the distinction after leading Berry to an 8-8-1 overall season.  Alec Jones, Caleb Ford, and Jake Williamson led Berry's honorees, with each earning spots on the All-Conference first team.

Also earning All-Conference recognition, Berry's Steven Moore and Carson Oakes earned honorable mention accolades.

Jones, a junior defender from Griffin, Ga., earned a spot on the All-Conference first team for the first time after finishing the season with two assists. Behind Jones's standout defense, Berry opponents are averaging only 1.16 goals per game, with the Vikings posting five shutout victories on the year. In his three years as a Viking, Jones has seen time on the field in 47 contests, including 41 starts for Berry.

A senior defender from Black Mountain, N.C., Ford was named to the All-Conference team for the third time in his career after scoring one goal for the Vikings this season. Ford's lone goal of the year came in Berry's 3-0 SAA Quarterfinals victory over Rhodes College last weekend, earning the Vikings a trip to the SAA Semifinals. Behind Ford, the Vikings posted a 3-3-1 conference record, winning or tying six of their final eight games.

Williamson, a sophomore forward from Roswell, Ga., earned his first All-Conference accolade after leading the Vikings with six goals and six assists on the season. Williamson finished the year with 18 points for Berry, as well as 63 shots, 30 of which were on goal. He also led the team to an average of 13.6 shots per game, ranking first in the SAA in shots on the season, as well as fifth in assists.

A junior goalkeeper from Odessa, Fla., Oakes was tabbed to the All-SAA honorable mention team for the first time in his three years as a Viking. Oakes has recorded 1259:23 minutes in goal this season, adding 43 saves for Berry, while boasting a .754 save percentage. He also finishes regular season play ranked in the top five in conference in save percentage, goals against (14) and goals-against average (1.00).

Moore, a junior forward from Warner Robbins, Ga., was named to the All-Conference team for the third time in three years. He scored six goals and added three assists for Berry this season, accumulating 15 points. Moore also recorded 41 shots for the Vikings, 18 of which were on goal, as he boasted a .439 shots on goal percentage. In his three years on the Berry roster, Moore has posted 23 goals and eight assists to lead the Vikings offense.
