ROME, Ga. – Chris Berchock tallied five times, as the Berry College men’s lacrosse team held off Aurora College 15-13 at home on Tuesday night.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, remaining ahead 10-7 at halftime. Berry then outscored Aurora 3-2 in the third quarter, before the Spartans bested the Vikings 4-2 in the final 15 minutes of play to cut the deficit to just two goals by the end of regulation.
Berchock’s five goals led all scorers on the night, as Berry finished the contest ahead in shots (39-38), face offs (17-13) and clears (15-12). Three other Vikings added two goals in the victory as well: Luke Koferl, Andrew Elgin and McKinely Gannon. Riley Brogdon (3-1) earned the complete-game win in goal for Berry, finishing the night with seven saves, as the Vikings improved to 4-2 overall on the year.
Aurora’s Joey Lucchesi led the Spartans with four goals of his own in the contest. Teammates Ben Arends, Gavin Hardersen and Trevor McNamara each added at least two goals in the outing as well. Tyler Lombardi (3-1) took the loss in goal, collecting seven saves, while allowing 15 goals, as the Spartans fell to 3-1 overall on the season.
