Men's Lacrosse to Host Third Annual "Faceoff for a Cause"

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — The Berry College Men's Lacrosse program will again play host this fall to their third annual "Faceoff for a Cause" event along with the men's lacrosse programs from Emmanuel College, University of Georgia, Piedmont College, North Greenville University, Reinhardt University, Shorter University and Young-Harris College on Saturday, Oct. 21st from 8:30 am - 6:45 pm at Berry College's Valhalla Stadium.

The event includes scrimmages between the teams, and a fundraiser with goals to raise $10,000 for the nonprofit organization Samaritans Purse to help aid in hurricane recovery and relief efforts. The organization is a non-profit organization that responds to the urgent needs of families devastated by natural disasters in the United States or abroad.

"We're excited to again host such a wonderful day of lacrosse and charity," Berry's Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Curtis Gilbert said. "We hope that both the attending colleges and the growing Georgia lacrosse communities show their support and help us raise money and support for the areas hit hardest by the recent string of hurricanes."

Coach Gilbert noted that special thanks are also due to the referees and Aramark Dining Services who have expressed their support for the cause. The referees will be donating their fees to Samaritans Purse, while Aramark Dining Services has offered to feed attending players free of charge. The previous two "Faceoff for a Cause" events benefitted the Wounded Warrior Project raising just over $16,800 in support efforts.

"We were happy with last years event and feel that the Wounded Warrior Project is certainly a worthy cause. However, as coaches we all agreed that we would like to find a way to collaborate our efforts towards hurricane relief efforts in the areas hardest hit," Gilbert said. "I couldn't be more excited that some really terrific programs have joined in the cause and I think this year is going to be our best benefit yet."
