Berry Men's Lacrosse Advances to SAA Semifinals

ROME, Ga. – Blake Gwizdalski scored four goals and had four assists as Berry College defeated Millsaps, 17-3, in a Southern Athletic Association quarterfinal game on Saturday.

BC, which advances to next Friday's semifinals, improved to 12-4. Millsaps ended its year with a 5-9 record.

 The Vikings led 7-3 at halftime. Berry then outscored the Majors 8-0 in the third quarter to pull away. 

"We were a bit rusty to start, but they picked it up," said Berry Head Coach Coach Chris Delfausse. "The second half was great. It's tournament time so it's all about surviving and advancing."

Cory Hall tallied four times for the Vikes. Grant Phillips had three goals and one assist and Max Smerka scored and assisted twice for the home club. 

BC had the edge in shots (54-23), ground balls (55-18) and faceoffs (19-6).

Jordan Boreman played the first 40:21, had four saves and earned the win. Brandon Sanders and Nick Voso each had one save in relief of Boreman. 

Berry, the second seed, plays Centre or Rhodes in the semifinals. The game will be played at top-seed Sewanee.

"Once you're in the semifinals, it's going to be a tough game no matter what. "The guys are excited with two games left in the season so we're going to try to make the most of it."
