PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Berry College men’s and women’s golf teams opened spring competition Monday at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate Invitational, with second round play cancelled today due to rain.
The women’s team finished tied for fifth overall (317, +25) with Rachel Belanger finishing second among individuals, tying the Vikings’ program record for shots under par (-3) on a par 73 course. The men’s team finished competition tied for seventh, shooting a round one 298 (+10), while besting four other Southern Athletic Association (SAA) teams.
Oglethorpe took home the team title on the men’s side of competition, with three of their players finishing in the top five, posting a team score of 285 (-3). Methodist University finished on top of the women’s competition, with Johnna Beehner shooting a first-place 66 (-6) to lead the team to a 298 (+6) round one total.

Both teams will travel to Jekyll Island, Ga., for their next matches beginning on Friday, March 16. The Vikings will tee off at the Indian Mound Golf Course to begin play at the Jekyll Island Invitational.
