MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Berry College won the 2015 Southern Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship on Sunday with a 3-day total of 852--a new Berry NCAA DIII record. BC's Ryan Elmore shot a 67 on the final round and earned medalist honors with a 210 tally. Full Results

Elmore (74-69-67) held off teammate Tommy McCloskey (67-72-74--213) by 3 strokes. Viking Ty Hampel tied for third place with his 213 score (70-70-75).

The Vikes led the tournament from start to finish. BC ended up12 shots under par at the Old Fort Golf Club course. Yet Berry had to hold off a late charge by top-ranked Oglethorpe University.

Berry started the day with a 7-stroke edge on the Petrels. OU, however, had 4 players shoot par-or-better rounds and cut the margin to 2 shots with 3 holes to play. Despite firing the day's low round of 284, however, the Stormy Petrels could not make up the difference and finished at 857.

"The guys knew we had to win this tournament to make the NCAAs," said Berry Head Coach Brian Farrer. "Everyone contributed to the victory and Ryan played flawlessly today."

As the winner of the SAA Championship, Berry earns the automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. For the second year in a row, the event will be held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. (May 12-15). It will be the Vikings' second straight trip to the NCAAs.
