Berry Men In 14th After Opening Round of Chick-Fil-A Collegiate

Ryan Gambrell Fires 73 To Lead Vikings Monday

Berry's Ryan Gambrell shot a team-best 73 Monday in the first round of the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational at Coosa Country Club.  He enters Tuesday's final round tied for 14th place.

Gambrell and the Vikings are in 14th place as a team after shooting 314 Monday.

Gambrell is just one shot outside of the top 10 and only four shots back of the leaders.  Union's Josh Dyer, Reinhardt's Zach Lindsey, Southwestern's Tim Jasper and Lee's Hunter Vest are all tied for the lead at 69.

Lee leads the team standings by six strokes after shooting 286 Monday.  Southwestern and Trevecca Nazarene each shot 292 and are tied for second place.

Gambrell was the lone player in Berry's lineup to shoot in the 70s, although Berry's Jose Garcia, playing as an individual, fired a 76.  Alex Irvin and Alex Elmore each shot 80, while Chase Kulczak shot 81 and Jason Terranova shot 84.

Aside from Garcia, three other Vikings played as individuals.  John Hall shot 80, Jared Hall shot 87 and Blake Hall carded a 91.

Union (295), Reinhardt (295), Spring Hill (298), Milligan (300), Marian (302), LaGrange (304), William Carey (306) and South Georgia (306) round out the top 10 after the opening round.  That group is followed in the standings by Virginia Intermont (307), Piedmont (313), Berry (314), Young Harris (316), Truett-McConnell (316), Emmanuel (317), Covenant (319) and Maryville (328).

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
