Kim Leading Vikings After First Round Monday
Tim Kim shot 75 to lead Berry's men's golf team on the first day of the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial hosted by Guilford College Monday.
Kim is tied for eighth place after the opening round. He carded a 34 on the front nine, tied with two other players in the 89-player field for the best such score.
Berry is in eighth place after shooting 316 as a team. The Vikings are two shots behind seventh place Christopher Newport and only 11 shots behind the leader, Greensboro College.
Seventeen teams are competing in the event.
With rain and wind making for tough conditions on the course, Guilford's Mat Hennick took the individual lead with a first-round 69.
Berry's Jose Garcia is tied for 18th after shooting 78. Alex Elmore shot 80 and Alex Irvin shot 83 to contribute to Berry's first-round score. Elmore is tied for 31st and Irvin is tied for 51st.
The Vikings' Chadd Reynolds shot 85 and is tied for 63rd. Berry's Ryan Gambrell, entered as an individual, is among the players tied with Garcia for 18th at 78.
The tournament is scheduled to include Tuesday.
