LAGRANGE, Georgia -- Freshman Caleb Johnson scored a game-high 28 points, but Berry College lost at LaGrange College, 106-91, on Wednesday night.
The Vikings dropped to 0-3 and the Panthers moved to 2-1.
Johnson was 10-16 from the field and made four three-pointers in the game. Lee McCloud scored 16 points and Owen Jacobs contributed 15 for the Vikings. Lukas Korn (10 points) was the fourth BC player to score double digits in the game.
Johnson hit a three-pointer that gave Berry a 58-54 lead with 17:04 left in regulation. The Panthers then went on a 14-0 run the next three minutes and never trailed again.
LaGrange held a 50-45 lead at halftime. For the game, the Panthers shot 57-percent (35-61) to Berry's 54-percent (21-61). The Vikings won the battle of the boards, 36-25.
The home team scored 40 points off 32 BC turnovers. Berry scored 11 points from the 19 miscues they forced.
Additionally, LaGrange had a big edge at the free throw line. The Panther made 32-43 from the charity stripe and Vikes converted 18-23.
Nick Mitchell posted a team-best 23 points (11-12 free throws) for LaGrange. LC had six players score in double figures in the contest.
The Vikings play at Huntingdon (Ala.) College on Saturday.
