MEMPHIS, Tenn. –- Hunter Smoak notched a career-best 28 points, but Berry College lost at Rhodes, 96-77, on Friday night. The senior guard was 7-18 shooting, converted four 3-pointers and made all ten of his free throws.
The Vikings dropped to 3-9 and 0-2 in the Southern Athletic Association. Rhodes improved to 9-4 and 2-0.
The Lynx shot 53-percent (31-59) in the game to Berry's 37-percent (21-55). The home team won the battle of the boards, 40-32.
RC had four players score in double figures. Geoff Livsey tallied 19 points to lead Rhodes.
In the first half Berry led 9-8 before Rhodes heated up. RC shot 57-percent (16-28) to Berry's 40-percent (10-25) and the Lynx led 47-36 at halftime. Whalen led all players with 12 points at the break.
The Lynx used a 16-6 run to begin the second half and led 63-42 with 14:47 remaining. The Vikings later reduced the lead to 14 points, but got no closer.
The Vikings play at Hendrix in Conway, Ark. on Sunday afternoon.
