ATLANTA — Berry College's Mamadou Soumahoro is used to picking up accolades for his work on the defensive side of the ball, but the senior defensive lineman has earned the Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Special Teams Player of the Week award this week after helping Berry to a 35-18 win over Birmingham-Southern.
The Lawrenceville, Ga., native finished the game with three tackles and a pair of sacks, but came up big for the Vikings by blocking two extra point attempts to keep points off the board for the Panthers. Berry's win clinched the program's second straight SAA title and the program's first NCAA postseason berth.
Sitting at 14 straight games, Berry now has the third longest active streak in NCAA Division III and ranks among the national top 10 in rushing defense (58.0 yds/game) and red zone offense (0.953).
The Vikings are back in action on Nov. 11th against Trinity at home for the final game of the regular season.
