Soumahoro Tabbed First-Team Preseason All-American

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — Berry College's Mamadou Soumahoro has been selected as a first-team Preseason All-American by, the publication announced on Tuesday. 

Soumahoro is the lone Southern Athletic Association (SAA) player to earn the recognition after leading the nation with 15 solo sacks a season ago. 

The Lawrenceville, Ga., native had one of the most impressive seasons in all of NCAA Division III this year. He finished the season as an AFCA and first-team All-American after leading the nation in solo sacks, adding 47 tackles and 20 tackles for a loss this season, good enough for No. 10 in the nation. He broke the Berry College single-season sack record after a five tackle, two sack performance over then No. 22 Hendrix. He also forced five fumbles (No. 4 in the nation) and recovered four (No. 2 in the nation).

The reigning SAA Defensive Player-of-the-Year anchored the Vikings defense which led the SAA in points allowed per game (20.2), rushing yards per game (66.6, ranked No. 3 in the nation) and sacks (32). He also led the Vikings defense during the pivotal Centre game to a program-record nine sacks. 

The Vikings finished the year as SAA Champions after a program-best 9-1 record. Berry will open its season on September 2 at Maryville College.
