JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. — WRGA-AM, the radio home of Berry College football, was selected as the winner of the 2017 Georgia Association of Broadcasters' GABBY Award for Best Sports Play by Play Broadcast on Saturday night.
The broadcast of Berry vs. Centre College from Nov. 12, 2016, earned recognition as the top in the state in the Division AA Radio division. The Vikings' win over the Colonels clinched the program's first conference title.
Led by broadcasters Tony McIntosh and Dave Garner, WRGA has been covering the Vikings on gamedays for the last two seasons. The pair is assisted by Berry College senior, Peter Gunnin, and Garner's 13-year-old son, Dalton.
"We're just very proud to put together such a high-quality broadcast for not only WRGA but also Berry football," McIntosh said. "I hope that the quality of our broadcast is a positive reflection on Berry as a school and the athletics programs as a whole. It puts a whole new meaning to teamwork because we all contribute to what made this award possible."
The award-winning broadcast team will be covering all of the Vikings' game this season on 98.7 FM and 1470 AM in addition to the online web broadcast at wrganews.com.
