English Riders Earn Another Win at Lander

by Emma Childs

Despite some cold and rainy weather, the English riders of the Berry College equestrian team ended their second day at the Lander University Horse show with a win, beating out 14 other schools, including hosts Lander and Clemson. The victory marks the third overall win of the year for the hunt seat girls of the team.

Caroline Anderson grabbed a fourth place in the Open Flat class to start the day as her teammate Savannah Bleakley pointed into the same class following her first place finish in Intermediate Equitation.

Bleakley then turned around and secured a fifth place ribbon in the Open over Fences division. Caroline Anderson added more first place points to Berry's board with her blue ribbon in the Intermediate over Fences section as fellow Viking Autumn Clarke added a fifth place ride.

The Novice Equitation sections were full of Berry riders with Amanda Peterson's fourth place performance, Madison Harris' third and Brittany Conti's first place victory.

Kristin Brennan finished the jumping classes for the afternoon with her fourth place success in the Novice over Fences division.

Sophomore Meghan O'Brien earned her first collegiate career victory with a first place in the Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter class. Not to be outdone, Rebecca Cochran also grabbed a blue ribbon in her Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter section. Murphy Overton concluded the day with a second place in Walk/Trot.

The Lady Vikings resume their season on February 11 with a show hosted by University of Georgia.
