Baseball Falls to Marietta at Home 4-1

ROME, Ga. - The Berry College baseball team fell to the Pioneers of Marietta College 4-1 at home on Friday afternoon.

Marietta jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers then tacked on an additional run in the top of the fifth inning to push the score to 3-0 before Berry crossed the plate.

The Vikings pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Joey Ruiz grounded into a double play to bring home Quinn Smith and cut the lead to 3-1. Marietta then scored their final run of the game in the top of the ninth inning, ensuring the 4-1 victory.

Trey Rampy took the loss on the mound for Berry, tossing 5.2 innings, while allowing seven hits and three runs, striking out four Pioneers. The Vikings finished the contest with four hits and just one error, while Marietta finished the day with 13 hits and four errors. With the loss, Berry falls to 7-4 on the year, while Marietta improves to 1-0.
