ATLANTA — Continuing his dominant start to the season, freshman pitcher Spence Johns collected his first career Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Pitcher of the Week honor, the league announced on Monday.
The Dacula, Ga., native kept his perfect 0.00 ERA unblemished this week, earning a pair of wins to help Berry improve to 9-4 on the year.
Johns earned his first win of the week against Covenant on Tuesday night, tossing five innings while allowing just one hit and no runs, striking out seven Scots en route to the 9-7 victory. He then tossed an additional six innings against Emory on Sunday, allowing just three hits and no runs, while striking out five Eagles.
Johns currently sits at 3-0 on the year, allowing just five hits in his 15 innings of work, while boasting a conference-best 0.00 ERA and striking out 16 batters. Johns held opponents to a mere .111 batting average on the week, averaging 9.82 strikeouts per game, while adding nine putouts and four assists.
The Vikings are back in action tomorrow at Piedmont College. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
