Baseball Edged at Emory on Tuesday in Ninth Inning Rally

ATLANTA — Emory University spoiled a chance for the Berry College Vikings to take their third win off the Eagles this season, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand Berry a close 6-5 loss on the road.

Emory struck first in the bottom of the first inning off a sacrifice fly, but Berry would plate a pair in the top of the second and one in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Eagles scored the equalizer in the home half of the fourth off a wild pitch before Casey Whitaker collected his second RBI of the day in the fifth to regain the lead for the Vikings.

A Nick Chambers double would tie it up once more in the bottom of the fifth, but Quinn Smith would send a sacrifice fly to right field in the seventh to give Berry a 5-4 advantage.

Berry had two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but NJ Kim would come off the bench and send an RBI single to center field to tie the game before Michael Edelman sent the walk-off single up the middle to hand Berry just their fifth loss of the year.

Will Gibbons took the loss for Berry, falling to 0-2 on the year. Charlie Redovian earned the win for Emory.
