ATLANTA - Continuing his monster performance at the plate, Berry's Alfred Francis was selected as the Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Player-of-the-Week for games played March 13-19.
Batting .688 on the week with eight runs, two doubles and two triples, Francis extended his SAA-leading batting average to .480 for the season. He started the week a perfect 8-for-8 in his first eight plate appearances. He was 5-for-5 in the Vikings' 13-8 victory against La Verne on Wednesday, scoring five times in the outing and knocking in one run for the Vikings. Francis also added a stolen base in the contest, as well as a triple.
He was then 4-for-7 at the plate in two games against the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran, adding his second stolen base on the week while scoring two runs. Francis finished 2-for-4 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday to round out the week. He scored once in the contest and knocked in an RBI as well, adding his second triple of the week in the outing.
On the week, Francis posted a .706 on base percentage, as well as a 1.063 slugging percentage, while adding 17 total bases. Defensively, Francis boasted a .955 fielding percentage, with 17 assists and four put outs while turning two double plays.
Behind Francis, the Vikings are now 12-10 overall, as well as 3-3 in conference play.
