Baseball Drops Shootout with Piedmont Lions 15-11

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Vikings added 17 hits, but the Berry College baseball team fell to Piedmont College 15-11 on Tuesday night in a high scoring contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Vikings jumped out to a quick start, leading 4-1 going into the fourth inning.
  • Piedmont then scored seven runs in the top of the fourth inning and never fell behind again.
  • Berry scored a combined six runs in the final three innings of play, but the deficit was too large, and the Vikings fell 15-11.
  • In the contest, both teams added double-digit hits, with the Lions outhitting the Vikings, 22-17.
  • Nine separate Vikings added at least one hit in the contest, and 11 Lions did so as well.

  • Slade Dale: 4-for-5, 2 R, RBI, BB, 3B
  • Will Deems: 3-for-3, 2 R
  • Casey Whitaker: 3-for-3, R
  • Joey Ruiz: 2-for-3, 2 RBIs

PIEDMONT STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Caleb Norton: 4-for-4, 3 R, BB
  • Griffin Olson: 3-for-4, 3 r, bb
  • Nathan Holt: 3-for-6, R, 3 RBIs
  • Jabin Smith: 2-for-5, R, 2 RBIs, BB

NOTABLES:

  • With the loss, Berry fell to 19-18 overall on the year.
  • Piedmont improved to 22-19.

UP NEXT:

The Vikings will round out regular season conference play with a three-game series against Millsaps College this weekend. Game one is set for Friday, April 21 at 6:00pm.
