Brandyn Jackson went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and scored four runs and Levi Austin tossed a complete game in leading Berry to a 12-2 victory over Covenant in the opening game of a doubleheader Tuesday in Lookout Mountain, Ga. The Vikings completed the sweep with a 7-5 win the nightcap.
Jackson, who also drove in a run, was one of three Vikings with three hits in the day's first game. Stephen Gaylor was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and RBI, while Austin Neely went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Drew McDuffie drove in four runs and Zack Farmer had two RBIs for the Vikings.
Will Cleland led Covenant with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Austin (3-4), allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in the seven-inning contest. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.
Scots starter Keith Rice (3-1) took the loss. He allowed eight runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
David Lockwood was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Scots.
Vikings' starter Mitchell Cohen (2-1) earned the victory. He allowed five runs on five hits in four innings of work. He struck out one batter and walked three.
Carter Reese earned a save, tossing three innings of shutout ball in which he struck out two batters and did not walk anyone.
Covenant starter Micah McCabe was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) in three innings.
Berry closes out its season Saturday, when it hosts Toccoa Fallas in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
