BUENA VISTA, Va. - A day on the road for the Vikings in Buena Vista, Virginia set the tone for them to carry their newly found momentum acquired against the Oglethorpe Petrels, and use it against the Southern Virginia University Knights. With a 10-7 victory in favor of the Vikings, they establish the start of a win streak.
The first period presented adversity that the Vikings had to overcome with the Knights scoring 2 goals to open up the scoring of the match. However, a quick response from senior,
Michael Beirne cut the Knights lead in half. With the period finishing out with high levels of defense displayed, the first period ended 2-1 in favor of the Knights.
The second period commenced with an equalizer once again from Berine. A sequence of trading goals happened which ended up with both teams having 4 goals a piece. One goal scored by Beirne to secure his hat trick in the first half of the game, and the next Vikings goal was scored by freshman,
Andrew Ingram. To close out the first half of the game, the Knights scored 2 goals to give themselves a bit of real estate coming into the third period of the game.
The third period showed the Vikings bleeding with resilience as they not only reeled in the deficit they faced before starting the period, but they then gave themselves a 2 goal lead with the score being 8-6 to close out the period. Ingram scored his 2nd of the match to mark his 6th goal of the season, freshman,
Davis Witherspoon, scored a goal of his own to mark his 5th goal of the season. Followed by a goal from sophomore,
Boston Juliao, marking his 5th goal of the season, the period finished with Beirne scoring his 4th goal of the match, which would mark his 16th goal of his Senior campaign.
The final period of the game saw a potential early comeback with the Knights scoring, making it 8-7 still in favor of the Vikings, but was shutdown by sophomore,
Mason McLarty to mark his 1st goal of the season, followed by a goal from junior,
Owen Morini, to put the nail in the coffin, securing the victory for the Vikings with his 18th goal of the season.
The Vikings plan to carry on their newly found winning streak and face their focuses toward the Sewanee Tigers, in Sewanee, Tennessee. This will be their 3rd SAA Conference game of the season, and they plan to get the victorious results that they seek on Saturday, April 4th at 1PM.
