Box Score KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Berry College Baseball finished up its three game set in the D3 showcase Sunday, playing an early morning game against Susquehanna University. The Vikings were able to sweep the weekend again and move to 6-0 on the season with a 12-0 win over Susquehanna.
Berry was able to load the bases in the first, scoring two runs off of a ground ball from Charles Pulaski, also with the help of an error from Susquehanna. Xavier Byams added on with a sacrifice fly to set the score at 3-0 going into the bottom of the first.
Eric Fountain was called on to toe the rubber for the Vikings. Fountain was able to set the River Hawks down in order for a clean first inning of work. Riley Uhls then added on with an opposite field three-run home run in the second inning to blow the game open to a 6-0 lead.
Each team was able to put multiple zeros together, until Byams added another RBI with a single through the left side in the fifth inning. The River Hawks walked in another run to increase the Viking lead to 8-0.
Fountain was able to put together five scoreless innings in an impressive start from the young freshman. Cam Welsh followed him as the first pitcher out of the bullpen, striking out the side in his first inning of work.
A wild pitch and a two-run single from Jacob Bridges gave Berry a 12-0 lead for the bottom of the seventh. Welsh was able to shut the door on Susquehanna in the 7th and end the game in a run rule.
Berry is back in action Tuesday at home against Maryville College.
