ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Despite a tough shooting day for the Vikings, they held on and dominated the paint to pull off a 52-46 win over North Park University to improve to 8-3 this season.
In their final day at the St. Pete Classic, the Vikings took on North Park, defeating them in every quarter except the second. The team was led by senior
Kenadie Lee with 15-points and four steals while
Briaiah Lewis and
Sylvia Kahoro followed with 8 points apiece.
After suffering a heartbreaking loss yesterday at the buzzer, Berry took back to the court for a victory. The first quarter was tight with North Park jumping on top first and holding three ties before the Vikings finished it off with a one-point advantage (17-16).Â
In the second, neither team could find a good bucket with low scoring from both sides leaving the score at the half 22-21, North Park.
Berry came out at halftime and led the rest of the game, but it was not easy. The Vikings made only one triple the entire game, being outscored from beyond the arc 30-3 with poor shooting. However, their saving grace was 16 team steals and outscoring North Park 34-10 in the paint (most notable was the 14-2 performance in the third).
With their hard work and determination after shots not falling became apparent, the Vikings stood strong on the defensive end to take a win in Florida.
Berry will return to action after the Holiday in Greensboro, North Carolina, to take on the Guilford Invitational beginning on December 28.
