Berry's women's basketball team fell to Centre College 70-57 in a Southern Athletic Association road matchup on Friday night in Danville, Kentucky.
The Vikings chance of a comeback coming into the second half was dimmed by their errors on defense in the most crucial point in the game.
Berry struggled to score in the first quarter as the Vikings trailed 14-3 after 10 minutes.
Kenadie Lee finally broke the scoring drought in the second quarter with back-to-back baskets, and with Berry down 20-7, the Vikings' defense finally started to switch on. Berry would go on a 16-0 run, with
Ellie Gearing,
Sarah Wright,
Faith Humphrey, and Lee all scoring for the guests. Centre (9-13, 6-6 SAA) was able to take back the lead thanks to a 7-0 run, giving the Colonels a 27-23 lead going into halftime.
Berry (13-8, 8-3 SAA) came out of the locker room and went on an eight-point scoring run to take the lead at 31-27. But Centre came storming back, hitting three three-pointers in a row to regain the lead for good.
Raven Washington led the Vikings with 12 points, with
Sydney Blankenship and Lee following with nine each. The defense managed 11 steals and 24 points off turnovers.
Berry is back in action against Sewanee at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Sewanee, TN.
