Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season Strong at Victor Icebreaker

ROME, Ga. — The Berry College track & field teams set a number of high marks on Saturday afternoon at the annual Victor Icebreaker Duals.

The meet, scored in a dual format, featured five Division III programs and five Division II programs. Berry's women defeated both Sewanee and Centre while the men bested Sewanee but fell to the Colonels by a narrow margin. The loss was Berry's first since restarting the track & field program. Berry is now 9-1 on the men's side and 10-0 on the women's side in the past five seasons.

Berry set a number of school records including a personal record (PR) from Dalton Sharpe in the javelin. His mark this year of 55.11m broke his old record from last season. Berry's Kya Wiggins took fourth in the 200m dash with a school record time of 26.12. Her second place finish in the 400m also broke a school record at 1:00.38. Finally, Roth Wilcox took down the school record in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.29. He also earned third in the men's long jump.

Also of note was Berry's Genesis Leggett who took first in the shot put and hammer throw. She also claimed second in the discus. Fellow thrower Denae Rivera took fifth in the shot put and third in the hammer. On the men's side, Jed Woodward won the shot put.

Kamman Brown took second in the women's long jump. Mitchell Brice won the pole vault with back-to-back PR's. Tucker Smith followed in third place. Meredith Herman ran a strong 5k, finishing third.
