Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Christmas came early for the Berry College men's basketball team at the Rhodes Holiday Classic this weekend as Micah Johnson solidified himself on the Nice List with a season-high 26 point outing in an 83-76 win over McMurry to secure a weekend sweep.
Johnson's double-double performance pushed Berry's record to 8-2 on the year while McMurry fell to 4-6. Caleb Haynes and Ethan Haslam also notched double-digits. As a team, the Vikings shot 47.4% from the field and 63.2% from the free throw line. Berry made a difference on the boards, out-rebounding McMurry 43-32.
Both teams struggled in the opening period with each squad shooting under 40% from the field. Berry also connected on just a single three-point shot in the first half on 15 attempts, entering halftime tied at 31. The Vikings erupted for 52 points in the second half, thanks to 17 points and 10 rebounds from Johnson. The team also hit its stride from distance, connecting on four three-point shots. McMurry kept the game close courtesy of 25 fast break points and a 74.2% free throw percentage.
The team returns to action at Oglethorpe University's Holiday Inn Express Classic on Dec. 29-30.
