Men's Basketball Opens with 78-66 Win at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Berry College men's basketball team opened the books on the 2019-20 season on Friday night, defeating the Huntingdon College Hawks 78-66 on the road.

The Vikings shot 50% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range in the outing. Four Vikings scored double-digits including Ethan Haslam, Dawson Wehunt, Caleb Haynes and freshman DJ Estes. Haslam led the way with 16 points, shooting 11-for-12 at the free throw line. Estes and Haynes followed with 14 points apiece. 

Estes was locked in during his first action as a Viking. He was 3-for-4 from three-point range in the first half, scoring 11 points. Berry shot 54.8% from the field in the opening period to take a 39-32 lead into the break. The Vikings outscored the Hawks 39-34 in the second period, courtesy of Haslam's 16 second-half points. Micah Johnson distributed the ball well in his first game at Berry, passing seven assists and securing a team-best eight rebounds. 

The Vikings have their home opener on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against No. 6 Emory.
