Track and Field Close Mountain Laurel Invitational

By Rhett Butler, Sports Information Assistant

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Berry College track and field teams finished their last regular season meet on Friday night with a small group of Vikings competing at the Mountain Laurel Invitational hosted by Sewanee.

The meet served as a last minute tune-up to the upcoming SAA Championships next week at Berry.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Parker Roberts placed 2nd in his 3000m Steeplechase debut.
  • Meredith Hermann won the Women's 1500m with a personal record of 4:59.
  • Antonio Brown had a solid meet after working through injury most of the season.
  • Alexa Bilsky posted a significant PR in the women's 800m.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"It was a good meet for some of our athletes to drop down an event or run an event they haven't done before to work on a desired training effect. Of the 13 Vikings who competed, 12 had PR's so it was a great way to finish up the regular season for us going into next week's championships. I was really pleased with the way the freshman who competed. Meredith Herman ran a very intelligent race in the 1,500m, winning the event with a big PR dropping below the 5 minute barrier. Parker Roberts took 2nd in his Steeple debut in a race where he led almost the entire race. Antonio Brown had a solid outing finishing in the top eight in both the Shot and Discus with new PR's in both. I was also proud of how sophomore Alexa Bilsky competed in the 800m winning her heat with close to a 13 second PR. Overall, it was a very successful outing and gives us lots of options as coaches going into the entry process for SAA's."
