Strong Showing for Berry Track and Field at Emory

By Rhett Butler, Sports Information Assistant

ATLANTA - The Berry College Track and Field teams spent Friday and Saturday in competition at Emory's athletics complex for the Emory Classic.

The meet was very competitive, which proved to be an advantage several Vikings over the  weekend. Many of Berry's athletes set competitive marks and times, a good indicator of the team's progression with the conference meet looming.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Day 1:

•Danielle Patterson won the Steeple with a new PR and school record of 11:22.25 (2 seconds faster than her previous best and SAA conference record time from end of season last year).

•Bethany Terpin won the 10k with close to a 3min PR of 40:12

•Quincy Watford took 2nd in the High Jump

Day 2:

•Genesis Leggett broke her school record in Shot Put with a 11.69m (38'4.25”) and with an over 11' improvement PR throw in Discus of 39.33m (129') taking 5th

•Alainna Chretien and Alexa Bilsky set big lifetime PR's in the 5,000m

•Will Knowlton took 5th in the 800m with a season best 1:56.39

•Gino Fabrizio and Jed Woodward took 6-7th in Shot Put with Jed throwing a new PR of 13.51m

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Emory traditionally has been a very strong meet for us and this weekend was no different. We had a very solid Day one on Friday on the Women's side with Danielle and Bethany picking up individual event wins giving us momentum going into today. We came away from the meet with a good amount of seasonal and lifetime PR's and more importantly, in several events, raced very well. The distance events and throws really carried us this weekend.  Genesis had a great meet and some big PR's as well. We still have a few areas where we are adjusting to the training a little slower than I hoped and we have a few injuries we are still nursing. With only four weeks left before SAA's, we hope to get back to full strength and keep seeing those times drop." - Head Coach, Luke Syverson
